Unexplained Thingies

This is a new section to my Blog which I will talk about things that go bump in the night.

I shall start with a general out line of this fascinating topic which I hope you will enjoy and maybe join in with.  So oft we go……….

Today’s ranting is about:

Paranormal, UFOs, Wild Cats, Ghosts, Spirit, ect.  the list is endless.

1) Are you a believer?

Or

2) Are you a non believer?

Or

3) Are you an almost believer who wants to believe but is embarrassed just in case you get laughed at by the non believers who will shout they don’t believe because they may or may not have any imagination. but they believe in a God and Jesus, or their equivalence in bind faith and full conviction.

Or

4) Are you a sceptic (I spit on the pavement) who are totally, to the point of suborn intolerance and self abuse  wouldn’t believe even if a ghost walked up to them and shock their hand, or a space craft landed on their lawn and said they were from the planet Zonk.

You see where I’m going with this.

Right, we would all like to see positive proof that there are all these so called paranormal phenomenon, or unexplained mysteries that everyone seems so keen on watching or talking about.

So who shall I pick on first?

Clairvoyance & Spiritualism:

I can speak from experience for some of it as I have had my palm read and been to a Spiritualist Church.

I found that a palm reader is very good at telling me what had happened in my life, but their leading questions do leave a doubt in my mind as none of them have given a real of the shoulder reading with out some prompting questions. They are either very good or very clever, either way there was some things said that made me think. One did say that she couldn’t see the future as a true event, more a possible one that could happen if I didn’t do anything a bout it.  I was told to watch out for left out  matches as she could see a fire at home.  I did hide all the matches but, did that stop a fire from happening or would a fire have happened if I had not put them away.  Quite frankly I wasn’t going to put it to the test.

I went to a Spiritualist Church with my daughter.  We were the first to be picked for a visitation (for want of a word) and was told taht 3 gentlemen was standing behind us,(didn’t say who they were) but we were told that my daughter was pregnant and would deliver a son. All true, there was no way the guy knew this and so this impressed me allot, as it did my daughter.  The thing I am trying to say is that I can see why people who attend these things believe when they get picked out.  They alone know if what is said is true or not and this can be a good way for the doubters to see how believing in this aspects of the paranormal is possible.

The good side to this is that you don’t have to pay, a donation possibly, after all they are a church.

Then there is the other side: the ‘If you want a reading then it will cost”

There is big business in Clairvoyance’s

Lets put some names down:

Colin Fry. Tony Stockwell. Derek Acorah, T J Higgs.

three-midiumsI must admit that I like to watch Colin Fry on the tele.  He puts on a good show and we have to believe that the people he picks out are genuine, and their participation is a change of heart for a lot of them, who may have had doubts before they arrived at the studio. Derek Acorah has just started a similar show which I think is good for him after his performance on Most Haunted (more about this show later)  I don’t blame them for making a living out of their ‘gift’, you only have to go on their web sites’ to see how much of a business they are making out of their ‘gift’.  The three pictured above are making the rounds at the moment.  The Three Mediums are sure to be a success and I will probably go and see them in Cardiff when they appear there.  Does this make me gullible?

Ok I will stop here for now.  My next thoughts will be on UFOs

  1. The professional sceptics – yep, and the bigoted ones. Reminds me of the evangelical atheists you get. Just as credulous as the gullible who fall for every trick show!

  2. May i insert an option (1 1/2) – Partial believer?

Certainly there are charlatans out there, n they spoil things for the genuine people. This effect is stronger in this field than in, say, tutoring or counselling where the poor/unqualified practitioners don’t overall dent the public belief in the service. Not nearly as much, anyway. Very often the sceptic’s view is based only on the non-sincere kind of practitioner.

As for your gullibility i have no opinion. ;0)

    1. Thax Mandy for the comment. I agree with what you say and I think that while there are many types of believers, this is also true about sceptics. The ones I eluded to are the professional sceptics that get paid to debunk & because a lot of them are professional highly qualified people they can be very intimidating to anyone who falls into option 1 & especially option 3.
Charlatans and tricksters’ are also a nasty side to the paranormal as they are in all professions. How to recognise these people is not always an easy task. But to know they exist can be a good defence but, they can also cause people to think twice about taking the step to be a believer. Best thing is to keep an open mind.
