Life’s Waiting Room

Life and Death
Life and Death

A recent death in the family got me thinking about my own mortality.  You have to ask yourself, ‘What’s the point of it all?’I mean, we are born…we live our lives as best we can, and then we die….  There has to be a reason for us to exist here other than the basic….reproduction reason.  After all for us males that only takes a few minutes.  So what do we do for the other 70+ years minus the odd few 2 minutes?

In our society we have to look after our kids and bring them up the right way. What ever that is?

So this means that we spend our lives looking after the kids, and then the grand kids after.  But, is this right?

We of course work to pay for this but is that the reason for living? There was a time when we were hunter gatherers, which was then our job, to fend for the family:  I doubt we were so monogamous then, and so probably had quite a brood then.

So the time line goes something like this:

We are born….we have kids….we look after them….we die.

Is that it?

Afterlife: life after death.

There are plenty of programs on the telly that apparently prove that when we die we go to another plain or spirit world.  Some people say that when we die that’s it, nothing, nana, darkness.

Who’s right, well there’s one way to find out and I’m not about to try and find that one out just yet.  In the mean time there’s no reason not to speculate and try and find out some answers that makes the whole living thing worth while.

Always look on the bright side of life (Life of Brian)
Always look on the bright side of life (Life of Brian)

I do find that reading different views about this cause’s a mixture of what, maybe, I would like to think does happen, or will happen, once I leave this earthly coil.

So here I am, sitting in life’s waiting room: the time between being born and dying, reading a ‘My Life’ magazine that is getting thicker the longer I wait, new articles being added each day I am there. There are only two doors in this waiting room, the one which I came in by is now far too small to leave, and the other door is shut tight.’

‘So I will wait, carry on reading my magazine, till the light above the main exit door is lit, the lock unlocked and the door opens ready for me to go through to see what is behind it.

Two short extracts from a short story I am in the middle of writing. I think it illustrates my point well, if you are more a Karma sort of person.

Here I must pin my colours to the mast.  I do think that there must be a purpose to life and death. I refuse to believe that once we die we it’s just……………………………….

What is the reason in that, and why bother to keep on living if all we have to wait for is oblivion. We all have to have a goal in life, a reason to keep doing what we do every day, a belief that one day it will all be worth while:  that  we are not just another microbe on the surface of the planet; a minuscule blot on the landscape.

The fact that we can think for our-selves must mean something.

What if the conscious part of our-self is our spirit, that is, the part of us that makes us human as apart from animal?  That bit of us that are sitting in the waiting room reading the magazine.

(I know that some people believe that all things have a spirit, but that will really confuse the issue; I am only thinking here of us.)

The spirit or ‘self’ is seen to be that part of us that carries on after we die.  It experience our life with all its twists and turns, the up’s and down’s.  Some people claim to be able to leave their earthly body and travel around on the astral plain. I have tried this without success, though I may have done this

Astral Projection (notice the chord)
Astral Projection (notice the chord)

as a spontaneous projection (technical name). This Astral Body (as it is called) is connected to the earthly body by a thin cord that when the Astral Body moves around, this cord follows it like a spiders web strand. Basic brain functions keep the earthly body alive while this is happening, till the Astral Body once a gain joins it.  There is supposed to be substance to the Astral Body but it can pass through any solid structure, floors ceilings, walls, doors. It can travel slowly or at the speed of light, going to where-ever the person wants too.  Indeed, it is claimed that with practice you can control, to some extent, the behaviour of the Astral Body and become conscious in it. I have tried some of the exercises that can help you do this, but as yet, no success.  But it’s a great way to go to sleep and I find I always wake up more refreshed than when I just go to bed.

Like I said before I got side tracked.

Its when this cord snaps, is when we die, without this cord we can’t re-enter the body. It’s the body and not the spirit that determines our death.  For what ever reason the body stops, the list is endless, heart attack, stroke, accident, old age, the cord severs and our ‘self’ is then free to go through the door into the ‘light.’

Like I said; these words are my own thoughts on this subject.  I can’t nor would I want to, prove any of the ideas I have covered.  I am sure that you, the reader, have your own views and I would love to hear them.  Why not let me know as by sharing your views helps increase the understanding to this fascinating subject. If you are interested in my short story based on this article then I will put a link in for it here. (Not yet. I haven’t finished it.  lol)
